Westfield Fire Department has introduced a new Community Paramedic program led by Walter Rippy, with a focus on bridging the gap between emergency response and ongoing healthcare needs. T
he program aims to manage chronic diseases, reduce ER visits, and connect patients to resources to keep them out of the hospital. With Westfield's population growing rapidly, the EMS Division Chief Patrick Hutchison highlights the need for expansion to meet the increasing demand, especially among the aging population.

Accreditation

Manatee County EMS in Florida has become the first organization in the state and the second in the U.S. to earn full accreditation under CAMTS Mobile Integrated Healthcare (MIH) Standards. The accreditation was granted during the CAMTS Board meeting in January 2025.
The program features a diverse team and is the primary 911 provider for over 403,000 residents and visitors. To earn accreditation, the program completed a self-assessment, compliance review, staff interviews, and expert committee review.
Program Launch

The Crisis Center of Tampa Bay has introduced a new community paramedicine program to assist individuals with substance use disorders in the Tampa Bay region and West Central Florida. The program offers a weeklong medical assistance service to help patients detox and transition to a substance use clinic. Paramedics provide daily safety visits, administer withdrawal medication, and connect patients to local clinics.
This initiative aims to reduce the risk of overdoses and fatalities, especially during the critical 48 hours post-overdose. The program is part of Florida's Coordinated Opioid Recovery program and aims to address the rising opioid crisis in the region. Community Health Advancement – This accreditation acknowledges the program's success in integrating services like social work, case management, and medical care, enhancing health outcomes for over 403,000 residents.
Crisis Center of Tampa Bay Launches Community Paramedicine Program
Community Health Support – The Crisis Center of Tampa Bay has launched a free weeklong paramedicine program to assist overdose patients during detox, providing daily visits and medication to ease withdrawal.
Bridging to Long-Term Recovery – This initiative connects patients to substance use clinics, aiming to reduce repeat overdoses and enhance recovery outcomes in Hillsborough County.
