New Program
![]() |
Warren County has successfully launched a new Community Paramedic Mobile Health program to provide proactive and non-emergency medical care to its residents. This innovative service is primarily designed to assist vulnerable populations, such as seniors, individuals with disabilities, and those managing chronic illnesses, by delivering healthcare directly in their homes. Operating outside of traditional 911 response, community paramedics conduct in-home assessments, monitor health conditions, and provide essential services like medication reviews and preventative care.
The core mission of the program is to empower patients to better manage their health and connect them with appropriate long-term community support resources. By providing care before conditions escalate, the initiative aims to reduce the number of avoidable emergency department visits, decrease hospital admissions, and enhance the overall health and quality of life for the county's residents.
The article highlights that paramedics, despite their essential and demanding work, are often overlooked when recognizing community safety and health heroes. Kawartha Lakes paramedics respond to a staggering and rising number of calls yearly, dealing with severe stress, gruesome scenes, and a high risk for mental health conditions. They provide compassionate, life-saving care, run valuable public education programs, and operate the innovative community paramedic service for non-urgent care, underscoring their immense value to the community.

Expansion
![]() |
Washington County commissioners and the EMS director are scheduled to hold a strategic planning meeting to discuss the future expansion of the county's Advanced Community Paramedicine (ACP) program. The ACP program trains paramedics to act in an expanded role, serving as an intermediary between doctors, physician assistants, and rural patients. Nine paramedics have completed six months of advanced training and clinical shadows at Blinn College to learn the necessary skills for making health and medication recommendations.
The initiative's primary goal is to provide preventative care, which is intended to reduce unnecessary ambulance visits to rural areas and decrease costs associated with "frequent flyers." This meeting is intended as a brainstorming session to evaluate the program’s current standing and look at opportunities for improvement and expansion.

New Program

The Bennington Rescue Squad is in the process of establishing a new Community Paramedicine (CP) program to expand local healthcare services beyond traditional emergency response. This initiative will utilize specially trained paramedics to provide non-emergency medical services directly within the community, such as patients' homes or community centers. The program aims to bridge gaps in existing services, focusing on chronic disease management, mental health support, substance use disorder recovery, and post-hospital follow-up care. A key goal of CP is to improve access to care for underserved populations and reduce the reliance on 911 calls and emergency department visits for non-urgent matters. The organization's goal is to officially begin the program between late 2025 and early 2026.
